Ability Housing Seeks Crowdfunded Support for Move-In Kits
Kits will provide basic necessities for residents of Village on Wiley, a new housing community opening this August
JACKSONVILLE, FLA., USA, July 29, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Ability Housing of Northeast Florida, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing solutions for adults with a disability and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness, seeks community support for a crowdfunding project to raise $14,190. Proceeds will be used to purchase move-in kits for residents of Ability Housing’s newest community: Village on Wiley, a 43-unit development on the city’s Westside. The organization hopes to provide each person who moves into the Village on Wiley with a kit that includes bed linens, kitchenware, bathroom supplies, household care and cleaning items, and personal care items. Each kit will cost approximately $330. Donations can be made online here, through August 30. All donations are tax deductible.
"We’re so excited to be able to help 43 persons exit homelessness forever. But when people move from homelessness, especially individuals who have been homeless for a long time, they have nothing. These kits will provide each household with the basic necessities and ease their transition back into stable housing," said Shannon Nazworth, Executive Director of Ability Housing of Northeast Florida. "Using a crowdfunding platform allows us to offer an easy way for the community to contribute and automate the process of showing the progress online. It provides us a real opportunity to reach a broader audience outside of our normal channels."
Since the fundraiser was launched on June 25, more than 70 percent of the goal amount has been raised through online donations from individuals and companies. With the first Village on Wiley residents expected to move into their new homes in early August, Ability Housing’s leaders are hopeful that the community will help raise the final funds to ensure that Village on Wiley’s residents have the necessary supplies to make a house a home.
