Facebook Will Power New Texas Data Center with Wind
July 2015 - Facebook has announced that it's building a new data center in Fort Worth, Texas, which will run entirely on local renewable energy. The company will procure 200 MW of new wind energy to power the data center by working with regional energy suppliers: Citigroup Energy, Alterra Power Corporation, and Starwood Energy Group. The 17,000-acre wind farm is located 90 miles away from the data center. The electricity produced will first serve the data center's needs, with the remaining electricity going to the local grid. Facebook plans to achieve a 25 percent renewables target by the end of 2015 and recently announced a revised goal of achieving 50 percent renewables by 2018.
