Track:

Canadian Tire Motorsports Park – 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course

Tire Sets:

Tudor Championship -P teams will be allowed 9 sets of tires for the race (including dry and wet tires); PC teams 7 sets.

There is no set limit for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

WHICH TIRE ARE THEY USING:

**Continental Tire has designated, Blacks, as the dry tire to be raced at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in 2015. If teams move to wet tires, the P and PC classes will stay on, Blacks.

P    Blacks – the same tire compound used at Long Beach, Sebring, Detroit, Mosport, Lime Rock, Road America, VIR, COTA, and Road Atlanta.   Delta Wing     Blacks – because it’s the only car on this configuration, it will race on, Blacks, year round. PC    Blacks – the same tire compound used at Long Beach, Sebring, Detroit, Mosport, Lime Rock, Road America, VIR, COTA, and Road Atlanta. CTSCC     This tire compound will be used at all other tracks this year.

Pit Window:

A fuel stint for the P class is approximately 40-45 minutes.

Track Characteristics:

Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is a high-speed track. However, with regards to tire wear, it is similar to Road Atlanta and is not terribly hard on tires.

FYI

  • How many? – Continental Tire will bring roughly 2,000 tires to cover both series in dry or wet conditions.
  • What makes Mosport Special – In this week’s Continental Tire Driver Spotlight on SportsCar365.com, Kyle Marcelli talks about what makes Canadian Tire Motorsports Park special. Check out Kyle Marcellis Driver Spotlight.
  • ExtremeContact™ - As racecars evolve, so do the tires. The Continental Tire team is constantly working to develop and incorporate new technologies to make the race tires more durable so as to provide even more competitive racing. These technologies are also adapted to Continental Tire’s line of passenger and light truck tires. Better wet braking, stopping distance and durability are just a few areas where technologies move from the track to the street. In fact, the race tires used in IMSA competition are part of Continental’s ExtremeContact line of tires which also include passenger and light truck tires like the DW (Dry Wet) and the new, DWS06 (Dry Wet Snow).
  • Prepare for your road trip - It’s time to roll down the windows, or put the top down and crank that playlist up. It’s road trip season! Just like race teams inspect and monitor tire wear throughout a race weekend, it’s important for fans to do the same. Whether you are driving a short distance, or across the country, tires are a key component of can make or break your trip. Here are four tips to help you make sure your tires are ready to get you where you need to go:
  1. Inspect your tires – look at all four tires, including the spare, and make sure there are no tears, bulges or other visible deformities in the side walls.
  2. Rotation – don’t forget to rotate your tires. The owner’s manual for your vehicle will have the recommended tire rotation.
  3. Check your pressures – check your tire pressures…including the spare. Follow the pressure’s outlined in your owner’s manual for your vehicle. Best practice is to take five minutes at the beginning of each month to check pressures.
  4. Tread depth – check the tread depth of your tires. If you have Continental tires on your vehicle that include Tuned Performance Indicators, take a look and make sure your tires are still optimized for performance in Dry, Wet or Snow conditions. If you don’t have Tuned Performance Indicators, place a penny into several tread grooves across the tire. If part of Lincoln’s head is always covered by the tread, you have more than 2/32” of tread depth remaining which is the recommended depth per the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTS).
