Can the Herpes Virus Cause You to Lose a Finger?; CBCD Reviews the Medical Evidence

The answer is yes, this condition is called herpetic whitlow. (1)

A person could actually lose their finger from herpes whitlow if the disease progresses far enough.

“Infected with the herpes virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2)? The CBCD recommends taking Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD

The herpes virus (HSV-1) can sometimes invade areas of the body outside of the typical mouth or genital regions. Dr. Gathier and colleagues wrote in a paper that herpes whitlow “is an infection of a finger or around the fingernails … caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV).” (1) The condition can be serious, and “requires a swift recognition and treatment to prevent complications.” (1)

What kind of complications can be caused by herpes whitlow?

A person could actually lose their finger if the disease progresses far enough. WebMD notes that “The key to preventing disability and possible loss of the finger is early and appropriate treatment. If any signs and symptoms are present, you should contact your doctor at once.” (2) The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that individuals who suspect that they have a herpes virus infection see their doctor, and then ask about taking Gene-Eden-VIR or Novirin against the latent HSV. The formula of these natural antiviral products was shown to reduce herpes simplex virus symptoms in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD. The studies showed that the formula is effective against the herpes simplex virus, and other viruses. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HSV … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with Gene-Eden-VIR.” (3) The study authors also wrote that, “we observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (3)

Gene-Eden-VIR and Novirin are natural antiviral dietary supplements. Their formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses.

To date, Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR are the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support their claims. Note: Novirin has the same formula as Gene-Eden-VIR. However, it contains higher quality and more expensive ingredients.

The CBCD stresses that some cases of whitlow can be caused by bacteria, and not by the herpes virus. It is therefore important to have a doctor diagnose any sores that appear on the fingers.

What are the symptoms of herpes whitlow?

“The fingertip area will be red and tender. A burning or itching sensation may be present in the area. There may be mild swelling …there may be a single or many open wounds in the area affected. These open wounds often occur in clusters after the formation of a small blisterlike lesion. The fluid in these lesions is usually clear in appearance but may be slightly cloudy. You may also have a low-grade fever and have swollen and tender lymph nodes in the area.” (2)

“Herpes is a fairly common virus whose different strains cause everything from chicken pox to mono. In fact, scientists have identified eight kinds so far, and chances are you’ve had at least a few of them in your lifetime. In addition to the aforementioned cold sores, chicken pox, and mono, herpes is behind genital herpes, roseola, and has been linked to certain kinds of cancers.” (4)

Until now, drugs approved for the treatment of HSV infections include penciclovir, acyclovir, famciclovir, and valaciclovir. However, their effectiveness is limited. For instance, “a meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled and two dose comparison studies evaluated the effect of aciclovir, famciclovir or valaciclovir on symptoms. The meta-analysis showed that oral antiviral therapy decreases the duration and the associated pain of an outbreak by merely one day.” (3) Unlike drugs or vaccines, which target the active herpes virus, there are two natural remedies that target the latent HSV. These clinically backed remedies are Novirin and Gene-Eden-VIR.

“We recommend that individuals who may be concerned about a herpes virus infection take Novirin or Gene-Eden-VIR, which are designed to help the immune system target the latent herpes virus.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD
