Colorado Middle School Students Head to the Races Saturday

Middle school students from around Colorado will participate in the 25th Annual Junior Solar Sprint and Lithium Ion Battery car competitions on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Dakota Ridge High School, 13399 W. Coal Mine Ave., Littleton.

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the competitions give students the opportunity to showcase their engineering and design skills by building and racing model solar and battery vehicles. The solar and battery cars race on a 20-meter course; 62 teams from 17 schools will be competing and trophies will be presented to winners in six categories. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual competition is also sponsored by DOE's Office of Science, the Alliance for Sustainable Energy, Jefferson County Schools, and Dakota Ridge High School.
