Houghton College Completes 2.5 MW Solar Installation

April 2015 - Houghton College has completed a 2.5 megawatt (MW) on-site solar energy installation on its campus in New York State, which is expected to provide enough power to meet more than 50 percent of the school's electricity needs. The system is anticipated to generate 3.15 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity and reduce the school's greenhouse gas emissions by 23 percent in its first year of operation. During the 25-year power purchase agreement contract period, the installation is estimated to reduce 2,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually and save up to $4.3 million. The project was designed and built by Borrego Solar with financing from WGL Energy. A portion of the funding also came from the "NY-Sun" initiative under NY's Governor's "Reforming the Energy Vision" initiative.
