Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the people who have been
affected by the earthquake in Nepal and the Himalayan region. We share the
grief in as much as many of our own employees, their families and people
dependent on our extended supply chain are at the receiving end of this natural
disaster. We can confirm that all the Coca-Cola employees are accounted for.
Our initial support has been focused on providing drinking water for
immediate relief. To date, the Coca-Cola system has committed 30,000 cases of
water.
In addition, The Coca-Cola Foundation has pledged US $1 million to the
American National Red Cross, which is working in partnership with the Nepal Red
Cross Society to help provide emergency healthcare, emergency shelter and to
help reconnect families. Although our immediate focus is on providing
short-term relief, we will continue to assess in the coming weeks and months
how we can help rebuild the communities impacted by this disaster.
While there are no visible damages to our bottling facilities in the
Nepal area, we have temporarily suspended production as we further evaluate the
building’s infrastructure and equipment. Once we have completed a full
assessment of our facilities, we will resume our operations in Kathmandu and
Bharatpur.
