March 2015 - The City of Georgetown, Texas, announced a 150-megawatt (MW) solar energy deal with SunEdison and a goal to become 100 percent renewable within the next two years. The city has agreed to purchase 150 MW of solar power beginning next year. SunEdison will construct new solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in West Texas that will supply the city with electricity for the next 25 years. The solar plants are expected to be interconnected in 2016 and are anticipated to provide more than 9,500 gigawatt-hours of solar power to Georgetown through 2041. With Georgetown's previous 144-MW wind energy purchase from the Spinning Spur 3 wind project in Amarillo, Texas, the city's 54,000 residents will receive all of their electricity from renewable energy by 2017.
