DIRECTV and SolarCity Complete 1 MW Solar Project in Long Beach
March 2015 - DIRECTV, in partnership with SolarCity, has announced the completion of a 1-megawatt (MW) solar array, located at its Broadcast Center in Long Beach, California. The on-site solar array is expected to produce more than 1.6 million kilowatt-hours annually, which will help DIRECTV move toward its objective of reducing its carbon emissions by 40 percent by 2020.
The two companies also announced their new service relationship: DIRECTV will now offer customers the opportunity to use solar electricity from SolarCity at a lower price than their current utility rates with no upfront cost. This new program makes solar energy more accessible and affordable to DIRECTV customers in every major market where SolarCity operates.
