North Carolina GreenPower Offers New Programs
March 2015 - Having been approved by the North Carolina Utilities Commission, two North Carolina GreenPower pilot programs are being finalized in support of solar photovoltaic (PV) installations at local schools, communities, and non-profit organizations in North Carolina.
Under the Solar Schools pilot, a portion of NC GreenPower's donations will go towards funding small scale (2-3 kilowatts) solar PV projects at local schools. The remaining funds will be used to encourage solar PV installations through a 50% matching grant (up to $10,000) that all K-12 schools in NC will be eligible to apply for. In addition to this, NC GreenPower will provide monitoring equipment for new solar projects as well as curriculum and lesson plans for students and teachers. The Renewable Energy pilot will allow communities and investors to crowdfund the purchase and installation of renewable energy systems. NC GreenPower will assist in raising funds to help pay for the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to support large (>50 kilowatts) PV solar projects at schools, non-profits, and community centers. These pilots are expected to be launched in April 2015.
