March 2015 - Having finalized a 150-megawatt (MW) solar energy deal with SunEdison, Georgetown, Texas is aiming to become 100 percent renewable within the next two years. The City of Georgetown has agreed to purchase 150 MW of solar power beginning next year from SunEdison, who will construct new solar photovoltaic (PV) plants in West Texas that will supply the city with electricity for the next 25 years. The solar plants are expected to be interconnected in 2016 and are anticipated to provide more than 9,500 gigawatt-hours of solar power to Georgetown through 2041. With Georgetown's previous 144-MW wind energy purchase from the Spinning Spur 3 wind project in Amarillo, Texas, the city's 54,000 residents will receive all of their electricity from renewable energy by 2017.
