Regional Tribal Renewable Energy Workshops Announced

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, with support from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), is offering a series of interactive workshops that will walk participants through the process for developing commercial- and community -scale renewable energy projects on tribal lands.

The workshops offer a unique opportunity for participants to learn from renewable energy project experts, get hands-on experience using technology resource assessment tools, explore project case studies, and hear about lessons learned from other Tribes.

Workshop participants will learn about the five steps necessary to develop and finance renewable energy projects on tribal lands, including how to:

  • Assess project potential
  • Determine technology options
  • Refine the project
  • Implement financing and construction
  • Plan for project operation and maintenance.

Workshops are designed exclusively for, and limited to, elected tribal leaders, tribal executives, and tribal staff.

Workshop Dates and Locations

June 9–11, 2015 Community-Scale Projects Riverwind Hotel and Casino Norman, Oklahoma

July 27–29, 2015 Community-Scale Projects Sandia National Laboratories Albuquerque, New Mexico This workshop will also feature a tour of the lab.

Sept. 1–3, 2015 Commercial-Scale Projects National Renewable Energy Laboratory Golden, Colorado This workshop will also feature a tour of the lab.

How to Register

There is no cost to attend the workshops, but participants are responsible for their own lodging, dinner, and travel costs. Coffee, a light breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack will be provided.
