New York Approves the State's First Community Choice Pilot

March 2015 - The New York State Public Service Commission has approved a proposal submitted by Sustainable Westchester, a consortium of Westchester County governments, to initiate the state's first Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program. CCA allows local governments to procure energy for residential and small commercial customers from a variety of energy service companies to secure supply contracts on a community-wide basis. Consumers who do not wish to participate are allowed to opt out of the program. The CCA pilot will give more than 800,000 residents in over 85% of Westchester municipalities the opportunity to participate. The CCA program will also go towards the state's Reforming the Energy Vision (REV) plan.
