Lysine Treatment for Herpes Could Cause Kidney Problems; The CBCD Recommends an Alternative
The development of kidney disorders may be associated with lysine supplementation according to Drugs.com. (1)
“Infected with the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1 or HSV-2)? The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD), which tested the formula of Novirin in two post-marketing clinical studies, recommends taking this natural antiviral supplement.” – Greg Bennett, CBCD
Users of l-lysine, a supplement commonly used as a herpes remedy, should be aware that it may cause kidney problems. “Lysine is as an essential amino acid - a building block of protein. The human body does not synthesize it, so it must be ingested. Studies suggest that lysine may be an effective treatment for patients with herpes simplex infections.” (See Medguidance.com) (2) However, Drugs.com notes that “lysine supplementation should not be used in patients with too much lysine in the blood or urine. Patients with liver and kidney impairment should avoid supplementation with lysine.” (1) Additionally, Dr. Stephen Gabardi and colleagues wrote that “L-Lysine has been reported to cause Fanconi syndrome and tubulointerstitial nephritis. Fanconi syndrome is impairment in renal proximal tubular function (kidney problems) and may lead to acidosis, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalances.” (See the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, from May 2007) (3) The Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) recommends that individuals infected with the herpes simplex virus take Novirin. The formula of this natural herpes remedy was found to be safe and effective, with no side effects, in two separate post-marketing clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines.

The formula of Novirin was tested by Hanan Polansky and Edan Itzkovitz from the CBCD in two clinical studies that followed FDA guidelines. The studies showed that the Novirin formula is effective against the herpes family of viruses, including HSV-1 and HSV-2. The clinical studies were published in the peer reviewed, medical journal Pharmacology & Pharmacy, the first, in a special edition on Advances in Antiviral Drugs. Study authors wrote that, “individuals infected with the HSV … reported a safe decrease in their symptoms following treatment with (the formula of Novirin).” (4) The study authors also wrote that, “We observed a statistically significant decrease in the severity, duration, and frequency of symptoms.” (4)
Novirin can be ordered online on the product website, here: http://www.novirin.com.
Novirin is a natural antiviral dietary supplement. Its formula contains five natural ingredients: Selenium, Camellia Sinesis Extract, Quercetin, Cinnamomum Extract, and Licorice Extract. The first ingredient is a trace element, and the other four are plant extracts. Each ingredient and its dose was chosen through a scientific approach. Scientists at polyDNA, the company that invented and patented the formula, scanned thousands of scientific and medical papers published in various medical and scientific journals, and identified the safest and most effective natural ingredients against latent viruses.
To date, Novirin is the only natural antiviral products on the market with published clinical studies that support its claims.
“Lysine is not meant as a replacement for conventional herpes treatment. Patients should seek medical guidance at the first sign of a herpes outbreak. Lysine's role in herpes treatment was only recently elucidated, so its side effects are just starting to surface … there have also been reported cases of cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain….” (2)
“L-lysine has published medical studies that support its use as a herpes remedy. However, as with all remedies, we recommend that individuals infected with herpes consult a healthcare provider. Additionally, we recommend that individuals ask their doctors about Novirin. Two clinical studies found that the antiviral formula of Novirin reduces herpes symptoms without side effects.” - Greg Bennett, CBCD
