WRI Releases GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance Standards
January 2015 - The Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which is managed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and produces international greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting and reporting standards, has released updated GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance standards. The updated standards aim to provide an common framework for businesses and governments to account for their energy emissions whether from electricity contracts or renewable energy certificates (RECs). Under the new standards, corporations can compare different electricity purchase options in order to calculate and disclose accurate GHG emission data, while utilities can calculate and disclose accurate carbon footprint information to their customers. The updated version recognizes and encourages more businesses to switch to renewable energy sources and support low-carbon energy solutions.
