New Wind Potential Capacity Maps Broaden the Wind Energy Frontier
Date: 12/10/2014
The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory, together with the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Program and renewable energy consulting firm AWS Truepower, have developed maps that illustrate the potential for wind energy using new wind turbine technologies. Wind resource maps are one tool wind industry professionals use in the early stages of wind project planning to understand the potential for wind development in a region. In conjunction with the new maps, the Southeastern Wind Coalition published a Southeast Wind Energy Fact Sheet and a series of state-specific fact sheets that describe past, present, and near-future resource potential as well as the wind industry supply chain and current electricity generation in the 11-state Southeast region: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
