LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, November 5, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ --
The 2nd Annual Golden Collar Awards, the irreverent Hollywood awards show that honors the acting achievement of dogs in entertainment while gently biting the hand that feeds it, has expanded its categories to allow more canine thespians from around the world to compete for the Golden Collar award. Hollywood’s most famous acting award for thespians with tails is scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, October 4, 2015; and will officially kick-off October 2015 as National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.

Alan Siskind, creator of the Golden Collar Awards, announced today that the producers of the show have made two significant changes to the Golden Collar Awards for 2015. To make the Golden Collar Awards a truly international awards show, canine actors from countries other than the United States will be eligible to compete in five (5) out of the fifteen (15) sponsored award categories. Just as importantly, in a major change to its nomination criteria and to celebrate the second chance at life given to adopted shelter dogs, the 2015 Golden Collar Awards will now only consider adopted shelter dogs to be eligible to receive a Golden Collar Award.

The Golden Collar Awards in 2015 will cap off a pet and family-friendly weekend of celebrity-supported adoption, entertainment and media events that will honor the acting excellence of shelter dogs while celebrating their second chance at life and the happiness they bring to the people who adopt them.

According to Mr. Siskind who is, also, CEO of Golden Collar Entertainment and one of the show’s producers, “The 2012 Golden Collar Awards became known around the world as the Oscars® for dogs. By expanding the categories in 2015 to include more categories exclusively for foreign shelter dogs, I think that the Golden Collar Awards will not only offer the opportunity to honor acting excellence by more dogs from more countries; but, just as importantly, it can become the most memorable, fun and influential worldwide platform that positively promotes the adoption of shelter dogs throughout the world.”

Siskind closed by saying “ Many people have asked me why there’s been such a long delay since the 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards captured the attention of Hollywood and was a worldwide hit. Well, about 18 months ago while in pre-production for the second show, I suffered a serious brain trauma in a preventable accident at a Ralphs Supermarket that made it impossible for me to work for well over a year; and forced this delay in the production of the 2nd Annual Golden Collar Awards. However, most importantly, once I fully recovered from the debilitating affects of my injury, it made me appreciate the second chance I got to, once again, lead a full and productive life. That’s what gave me the idea of using the Golden Collar Awards to celebrate the second chance at life given to adopted shelter dogs.”

The 2015 Golden Collar Awards Show, scheduled to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday October 4, 2015, will include fifteen (15) individually sponsored categories that will be open to adopted shelter dog actors only. Five (5) of the categories will be open to shelter dog thespians from outside the United States. Only those shelter dogs whose performances were aired between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015 will be eligible for a Golden Collar award nomination in the following categories:
