CVEC Now Offers Green Energy

October 2014 - Central Virginia Electric Cooperative (CVEC), a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility, is now offering a green power program. The voluntary program is available to all classes of consumers on all territory served CVEC. The Renewable Energy Rate, R, is set at 1.5¢ per kWh. The rate might be changed once per calendar year depending on REC market conditions.

CVEC purchased wind generated RECs through the Old Dominion Electric Cooperative. In addition to wind power, CVEC will produce RECs from the electricity generation of the Rockfish River Hydro Plant and a 2-kW photovoltaic system owned and operated by the organization.
