EAC September 2014 Meeting Final Work Products Now Available

Four documents approved at the September 2014 meeting by the Electricity Advisory Committee and delivered to the Department of Energy are now available for downloading. The mission of the Electricity Advisory Committee is to provide advice to DOE in implementing the Energy Policy Act of 2005, executing the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, and modernizing the nation's electricity delivery infrastructure. The members of the EAC represent a broad cross-section of experts in the electric power delivery arena, including representatives from industry, public interest groups, utilities, and state government.

The work products approved at the September meeting are:

2014 Storage Plan Assessment Recommendations for the U.S. Department of Energy This report summarizes a review of DOE’s energy storage program strategies and activities, and includes the EAC's recommendations for DOE’s consideration as it continues to develop and implement its energy storage program.

EAC Recommendations on Expanding and Modernizing the Electric Power Delivery System for the 21st Century This paper examines the factors influencing significant shifts in the U.S. electricity system; the evolving needs and expectations of consumers; and the operational improvements needed. It suggests ways DOE can use its resources to facilitate the grid improvements the nation needs while keeping costs affordable, and offers EAC's recommendations for strategic opportunities.

EAC Recommendations Regarding Emerging and Alternative Regulatory Models and Modeling Tools to Assist in Analysis This paper offers the EAC's support of the continued exploration of initiatives focused on the concepts of regulatory/utility business models. The paper includes summaries current and emerging regulatory models and initiatives and provides recommendations including suggestions for white papers and evaluations, the development or expansion of modeling tools, and the use of DOE’s convening authority and financial sponsorship.

Status and EAC Recommendations for Electricity Delivery Workforce This memo reports on the activities since September 2013 of the Workforce Work Group and makes recommendations to the DOE, including the development of a DOE response to an October 2012 paper and October 2013 memo with previous EAC recommendations; coordination of the power and energy workforce across federal departments; an inventory of existing programs and creation of a repository for workforce materials; and the completion of final reports and findings from ARRA Smart Grid Workforce Training Grants.
