Nestlé 'Fast Start' Trainee named 'Rising Star' at FDF Awards
Michael Fell, a commercial trainee on leading food and drink manufacturer Nestlé UK's 'Fast Start' programme, scooped the new 'Rising Star' Award at last night's prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards. The ceremony at London's The Brewery celebrated leading businesses and industry professionals from across the food and drink supply chain.
In a category sponsored by PepsiCo UK Ireland, the judges looked for an exceptional individual with the potential to go far in the industry. Professional Business Practice student Michael Fell joined Nestlé UK on the company's Fast Start Programme which offers school leavers an opportunity to gain a degree while earning a salary and gaining valuable work experience.
Since joining the scheme in September 2013 while studying for a BA (Hons.) in Professional Business Practice at Sheffield Hallam University, Michael has become a recruitment support specialist at Nestlé. Michael has successfully organised and coordinated over 30 assessment centres for 10 different graduate schemes, school leaver and internship programmes. He has also been given the opportunity to not only organise but lead the promotional and attraction activities for the 2014 Nestlé graduate and Fast Start campaigns.
FDF's Director of Economic and Commercial Services Steve Barnes said: “The new Rising Star category showcases talent and identifies bright sparks in the industry that deserve to be celebrated. It is clear that Michael is a star performer at Nestlé, having made a real impact and impression since joining the Fast Start programme last September. Michael is a brilliant ambassador for both, the company and industry, a role he has taken on with gusto. Colleagues admire his strong inter-personal skills, linked to a drive and determination to succeed, and believe that he has the right attitude and aptitude to develop his leadership capability.“
Category sponsor PepsiCo UK Ireland's Corporate Affairs Director Sally McCombie said: “We're delighted to be sponsoring the FDF's Rising Star Award. Recognising talent in young people – the future of our industry - is so important. At PepsiCo, we have a strong heritage of supporting skills development through various routes - from providing apprenticeships and opening our doors to schools and those looking for work, right through to sponsoring awards.
“We all know how difficult it can be for young people to get started in their careers and want to support in every way we can. Our congratulations to all those shortlisted, this evening.“
