Bactest Scoops Top Innovation Prize at FDF Awards
19 September 2014
Cambridge-based Bactest, a biotechnology start-up, scooped the Innovation Award at last night's prestigious Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards for its 'Speedy Breedy' rapid, portable contamination test. The ceremony at London's The Brewery celebrated businesses' contribution to the food and drink industry.
The Innovation Award, sponsored by apetito, showcases companies that are leaders in product research and development or in the way they conduct business.
Speedy Breedy is a rapid, portable contamination test that allows food manufacturers to screen raw ingredients, water and finished product for contamination on-site, shaving days off the time taken to send samples to a lab and receive results. It was designed to meet the market need for a portable, fast contamination test that did not require expert skills to interpret test results.
apetito's (category sponsor) Director of Public Policy External Affairs Lee Sheppard said: “apetito are committed to improving both the lives of its customers and those within the wider health and social care sector. We are immensely proud of innovations we have made to keep ourselves at the forefront of the industry and are naturally therefore delighted to sponsor the Innovation category, which rewards those that strive to go the extra mile in pursuing excellence.“
FDF's Director of Economic and Commercial Services Steve Barnes said: “The FDF Awards truly are a badge of excellence and Bactest's win demonstrates the vital contribution that innovative companies such as this make to food and drink businesses. Food safety is paramount for food and drink businesses and, through its Speedy Breedy product, Bactest offers producers a tool which peer-reviewed trials show delivers faster detection of contamination than current techniques.“
