DOE Issues Funding Opportunity for Academic-Industry Collaboration - Synchrophasor Engineering Education Program

Use of synchrophasor data from Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) is considered to be a promising tool to monitor modern electric power systems. However, only a limited number of professionals, researchers, and students have the knowledge and expertise to understand and analyze the high-speed, time-synchronized data that will be generated by the deployment of synchrophasors.

The objectives of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) are to:

  1. enable university researchers and students to gain access to and conduct research using synchrophasor data collected from utility distribution systems, and
  2. enable universities to create a successful curriculum and training program that will produce a knowledgeable and skilled workforce in disciplines that will meet the current and future workforce needs of the electricity industry.

A total of approximately $1.1 million is expected to be available for awards. The full text is available for download at FedConnect.gov. Applications are due by 8 p.m. on January 15, 2013.
