Honda Rearview Report: August 16 - August 22, 2014

"This week, the all-new 2015 Honda Fit joined our family of vehicles with top crash safety ratings, earning a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), where American Honda has more top-rated models than any other automaker. Our next-generation ACE body structure plays a critical role in achieving these ratings and reflects our early research on vehicle compatibility and the very stringent IIHS small overlap frontal crash test mode.

In early testing by the IIHS, the 2015 Fit achieved a "marginal" rating in this test. Unsatisfied with this result, Honda engineers responded by quickly modifying the design of the front bumper beam to improve the Fit's performance and achieve an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating. Honda is now taking the voluntary action to apply this modification as a product update to approximately 12,000 early-production units of Fit that are in the hands of our customers providing to them the very best vehicle we can produce. Now, no vehicle in its class has received a higher rating than the 2015 Fit in this IIHS test procedure.

This was no small undertaking, but it shows the high level of commitment to safety and to our customers that has earned Honda a leadership position in the industry, and it's one reason I am so proud to be part of Honda's safety RD effort.

- Chuck Thomas Chief Engineer, Vehicle Safety Honda RD Americas, Inc.
