Final EIS for Champlain Hudson Power Express Transmission Project Now Available

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has prepared a Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended (42 U.S.C. 4321 et seq.), the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) NEPA regulations (40 CFR §§1500-1508), and the DOE NEPA implementing procedures (10 CFR §1021). The proposed DOE action addressed in the Final EIS is to issue a Presidential permit to the Applicant, Champlain Hudson Power Express, Inc. (CHPEI), that would allow construction, operation, maintenance, and connection of a 336-mile, 1,000 megawatt, high-voltage direct current, electric transmission system that would cross the international border with Canada in Lake Champlain and provide electricity to the New York City metropolitan area market. DOE has prepared this Final EIS to evaluate the potential environmental impacts in the United States of the proposed action and the range of reasonable alternatives. The Final EIS is available on the CHPE Project website and on the NEPA website
