Colorado a Hub for Wind Power

Date: 7/19/2014

Sarah Cottrell Propst, executive director of the Interwest Energy Alliance and Four Corners Wind Resource Center, outlined the benefits of wind energy to Colorado in her op-ed guest column for the Pueblo Chieftain on July 19. Propst describes how the Vestas facilities in Colorado, including the factory in Pueblo, are part of a vast supply chain that employs more than 3,000 people in the state, in disciplines from operations and maintenance to manufacturing and other support sectors. Colorado wind supplies enough electricity to light the equivalent of more than 870,000 homes, and for a brief time in May 2013, wind power energized more than 60% of Xcel's Colorado system, showcasing wind power's ability to contribute in a significant way to the grid.
