CALOUNDRA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, July 3, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Airways Aviation hosts annual Open Day at Caloundra Airport

HUNDREDS of aviation enthusiasts and professionals are set to converge on Caloundra Airport for the annual Open Cockpit Weekend and Airways Aviation’s Open Day.

Interested members of the community will have a rare opportunity to sit in the pilot’s seat and learn what it’s like to fly helicopters and aeroplanes at the event on Saturday 5 July, from 9am to 4pm.

The Open Day provides an opportunity for potential students to speak to industry professionals and learn about the myriad of courses offered by Airways Aviation.
Trial Introductory Flights (TIFs) and scenic flights will be available to the public, while numerous aircraft will be on static display.

Airways Aviation Caloundra Base Manager Jodie Moffatt said the Open Day was a must for anyone who was curious about the industry or who wanted to pursue a career in aviation.

“It’s about getting the information on our courses out to as many people as possible, so they can learn about who we are and what we do”, she said.
“It's a great opportunity for individuals to speak one-on-one with pilots and flight instructors.”

Airways Aviation personnel and flight instructors experienced in helicopters and aeroplanes will be available to the public.

Ms Moffatt said a large percentage of students who enter the aviation industry have discovered a passion for flying during trial or scenic flights.

“I have found that most people who study with us have done trial flights either at a young age or before they commit to doing a course”, she said.
“It's a good way of getting a sample of the industry or a first lesson.”

The event will be held in conjunction with Queensland Air Museum’s Open Cockpit weekend, and runs from 9am-4pm on Saturday.

A sausage sizzle will be held from 10am at the free event.
