TIDAL CURRENT POWER GENERATION, “PROBLEM SOLVED” BY VARIABLE TURBINE DEVELOPED BY JEONGSEOK PARTNERS

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, June 11, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A turbine that changes blade angle by water flow to highly maximize power generation efficiency appeared. Korean based company, Jeongseok Partners Co., Ltd. announced that they have recently developed a variable turbine that minimizes the resistance of water or wind. The 5-MW turbine is under production by the Gyeonggi Regional Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) of Korea.

One characteristic of this turbine is that the blade rotates at right angle according to the water flow. When it is influenced by water, the blade is unfolded; otherwise, it is folded to minimize resistance. The core technique is a process-shaped cam attached to the axis which unfolds the blade only when it is under the effect of water.

One advantage of this turbine is that the cross-sectional area is at least three times as large as that of the conventional propeller-type turbine, which enables power generation even when the current speed is slow.

A representative from the company explained that the conventional turbine has low efficiency due to small cross-sectional area and short life because the blade receives resistance even during rotation. They improved the shortcoming of variable turbine by strengthening the central axis of rotation and the part connecting the blade with the axis. This mechanically solved the problem of tidal current power generation.

This can be used even in swift current and also for tidal current power generation. In an environment where the wind is not strong such as in Korea, this turbine can be used for wind power generation as well. This variable turbine has been recently applied for patent and was adopted in the business idea contest in energy field which was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy. When the prototype comes out at the end of this month, Jeongseok Partners will begin verification. "We will participate in the Invention & New Products Exposition this June in Pittsburgh, U.S.A. with the verification results,” said President Kwon Soon-il of Jeongseok Partners. And he added, “This product has a variety of applications because there is no limitation in the installation types, such as vertical, horizontal, and floating."

For mass production and facility, the company is now inviting investment from investment institutes and open to establishing business alliance with entrepreneur around the world for expanding market.
