MEDIA ADVISORY - JUNE 2 TELEPHONE BRIEFING

President Obama to Join American Lung Association for Telephone Briefing on EPA’s Proposed Carbon Pollution Standards

Wasington, D.C. (June 1, 2014)

WHAT:  President Obama will join the American Lung Association for a telephone briefing to health professionals and public health advocates regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed carbon pollution standards for existing power plants, expected health benefits and opportunities to provide public input.

Evidence is clear that unlimited carbon pollution from power plants is accelerating climate change and harming the health of our nation today, from degraded air quality to devastating droughts and worsening wildfires. The impacts affect all of us, but are especially harmful to children and other vulnerable populations.

Placing first-ever limits on carbon pollution from existing power plants is a vital step to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Unless strong carbon standards are adopted, reducing air pollution to protect our families and communities will become even more challenging.
