May 1: Live Webinar on Climate Change Impacts and Indian Country: Human Health and Community Development
Webinar Sponsors: White House Office of Public Engagement, White House Council on Environmental Quality, and DOE’s Office of Indian Energy
The webinar sponsors presented a live webinar from the Climate Change Impacts and Indian Country series titled “Human Health and Community Development” on Thursday, May 1. The multi-agency Sustainable Communities program works to support state, local, and tribal governments in planning activities to develop their communities in more environmentally and economically sustainable ways. Developing more sustainable communities supports our national goals of strengthening our economy and creating good jobs now, using energy more efficiently to secure energy independence, and protecting our natural environment and human health. Webinar attendees learned about other programs federal agencies have in place to help local communities with climate change impact assessments, mitigation, and adaptation.
April 17: Webinar on Fuel Cells at NASCAR
Webinar Sponsor: EERE’s Fuel Cell Technologies Office
The Energy Department presented a live webinar titled “Fuel Cells at NASCAR” on Thursday, April 17. Presented by NASCAR and Acumentrics, this webinar focused on the use of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) generators for powering broadcast cameras for NASCAR. Recently, Acumentrics Corporation completed a field test program with NASCAR to replace small portable gasoline generators with SOFC units operational on commercial propane. These generators demonstrated considerable fuel savings and emission reductions compared to the standard solution while providing reduced noise and vibration. With these attributes, the units have proven to be a viable power alternative for broadcasting needs for a host of different applications. During the webinar, this latest generation power solution was compared to the internal combustion engine, and the lessons learned and potential paths forward were shared with participants.
