Arch Coal Donates 250 Trees to St. Louis for 250th Birthday Bash

250 Volunteers Plant 250 Trees on May 2 to Celebrate St. Louis’ 250 Birthday

ST. LOUIS, April 25, 2014 – Arch Coal and St. Louis County Parks have teamed up to commemorate the 250th birthday of St. Louis by planting 250 trees with 250 volunteers.

The community is invited to participate at St. Louis County’s Queeny Park on Friday, May 2 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers will work alongside master gardeners, Principia students and Arch Coal employees, families and friends. In addition to planting 250 trees of all sizes, the park also needs volunteers to help with spring beautification efforts, including weeding, mulching and honeysuckle removal.

“There’s no better way to celebrate St. Louis’ birthday than by pulling together to improve our community,” said John Drexler, Arch Coal’s senior vice president and CFO. “St. Louis is a great place to live and work, and our parks system is one of the best in the country. Our mines support rural communities and help with reforestation, and we’re pleased to help do the same here in St. Louis with the donation of 250 trees for the city’s 250 birthday.”

“Arch Coal has been volunteering with Saint Louis County Parks for five years now,” said Doug Wolter, horticulture supervisor. “They have helped create an incredible horticulture experience for visitors of Queeny Park and continue to be dedicated partners by spearheading and being active participants in projects like this.”

Volunteers must pre-register by email at responsible@archcoal.com. The Parks Department requests that students and scouts under 16 years of age participate only with tight adult supervision. Volunteers should bring work gloves, park near the Greensfelder Recreation Complex and meet at 1:30 p.m. at Queeny Park’s Robert Hall corporate shelter at 550 Weidman Road, Manchester, MO 63011.
