International Education Organization, Family Exchange, Hosts International Student Exchange Day Event May 10th

Cultural Experience Awareness Organization Seeks World-Minded Family Host Ambassadors and Volunteers

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, UNITED STATES, April 9, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Family Exchange (FE), a multi-cultural community of international educators, families, and ambassadors with a platform of cultural sharing through international student exchange programs will host its annual International Tasting Student Exchange Volunteer Day on Saturday, May 10th 2014 from 12pm to 6pm at the Sorensen Unity Center located at 1383 S 900 W Salt Lake City, UT 84104 to promote global awareness for families wishing to build and expand through the learning of other cultures. For nearly 17 years Family Exchange has welcomed more than 100 international students from nearly 14 countries to the United States each year.

During their stay, students live with an American host family and attend high school in the host family’s community. Host families and Exchange Family Ambassadors share the “American experience” with these students who are interested in improving their English language usage and developing their role as citizens of the world. Family Services Director, Jay Elggren states, “One of our first exchange students was a girl from Brazil. She was just like our daughter. Even after she returned home, we stayed in touch with her and her family all these years later. She is getting married in the fall and she wants to fly us down to be at the wedding as her American parents. We wouldn’t miss it for the world.” FE invites families who wish to participate as hosts for international exchange students, local representatives who would like to volunteer as Family Exchange Ambassadors, people who wish to share similar experiences, and organizations looking to sponsor a student to attend the event.

FE offers a variety of opportunities to become in involved. There are opportunities for host to grow their families through enriching experiences of providing a home for an exchange student, local representatives assist with events and become the liaison between families and the exchange programs, and fundraisers help raise money to that continue to support the programs initiatives. Family Exchange Ambassadors Volunteers serve as the students’ support system while they are in the United States and act as the local representatives that assist with locating safe host family environments, matching students with local families based on interests and preferences, and ensure. “We started hosting to help the exchange students have a once in a lifetime American experience. Each student that stayed in our home became of special part of our family. We now have family all over the world. We don’t travel as tourist anymore. Our family can go visit almost anywhere in the world and stay with family,” Jay Elggren goes on to say regarding his past experiences as a Student Exchange Family Host.

Ambassadors are a key contact with families and students throughout the exchange and conduct orientation sessions to aid in cultural adjustment. An interest in working with teenagers, connection to your local community, network of open-minded, loving individuals, and an eagerness to share your community and country with international students are the core characteristics of a local Family Exchange Ambassador and Hosting Family. Ambassadors are overseen by Regional Coordinators, who train and guide them through the process of supporting international students and U.S. based families. Regional offices are staffed with an administrative team, trained advisors and counselors, and marketing assistance.

In addition to the benefits of hosting a foreign exchange student, volunteers are offered incentives for their participation such as all expense paid trips, a small stipend, and referral based bonuses. Individuals, families, and volunteers who wish to promote a once in a lifetime student cultural exchange experience within their community while fostering new cultural life long relationships for international students enthusiastic about learning about the opportunities here in the U.S. first-hand should contact their Regional Coordinator, Jay Elggren, at 801-644-9125 or visit www.myfamilyexchange.com.
