The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, the DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's Tribal Energy Program, and the Western Area Power Administration (Western) will present the next Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar, Strategic Energy Planning, February 26, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain time.

Attendees will learn about developing a strategic energy plan, identifying key aspects of successful energy planning, and using available information and resources such as case studies and on-demand webinars from the DOE Office of Indian Energy Tribal Renewable Energy Course Curriculum.

Presenters include:

• Alex Dane, Project Leader, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)
• Lesley Kabotie, Owner of Kabotie Consulting, Subcontractor to NREL
• Jana Ganion, Energy Director, Blue Lake Rancheria
• Gerald Warrington, Project Manager, Menominee Tribe

Dane and Kabotie will provide an overview of the strategic energy planning process and curriculum and discuss how developing a strategic energy plan helps a Tribe:

• Mobilize the long-term support necessary for energy project development that extends beyond changing political administrations
• Address barriers to energy development by providing a long-term view that prioritizes projects over not just years but several decades
• Engage stakeholders from all segments of the community to help the Tribe pursue energy development and energy projects in a thoughtful and strategic manner.

Ganion and Warrington will present case studies of the Blue Lake Rancheria and Menominee Tribes’ strategic energy planning.

“Ideas and data are nothing but pictures and words on a page without the action needed to bring them to life,” said DOE Office of Indian Energy Director Tracey LeBeau. “Ultimately it is the people—committed tribal leaders and staffs and determined community energy champions—who make it all happen. DOE’s role is to help sharpen their vision while providing the tools, training, and expertise needed to break down the barriers and provide a path forward through the strategic energy planning process.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask the presenters questions during a brief QA session at the end of the webinar.
