JAUNTAROO HIRES TYSON MAYR AS CHIEF WORLD EXPLORER

New York, NY - (NewMediaWire) - January 31, 2014 - Of the 3000 applicants from 99 countries who applied for the Chief World Explorer job, travel website Jauntaroo.com has picked Australian native Tyson Mayr for “the best job around the world” following interviews in Abu Dhabi. Tyson will travel the globe, all-expenses-paid, and earn $100,000 salary for sharing his travel experiences in as many as 50 destinations, including  Berlin, Calistoga, Costa Navarino, Denver, Fort Worth, the Maldives, Jacksonville, Nassau-Paradise Island, St. Lucia, Jamaica’s Negril and Montego Bay, and Puerto Rico’s San Juan, Ponce and Aguadilla.

“This is an amazing honor to be chosen as Chief World Explorer from a talented and caring group of finalists,” said Mr. Mayr.  “Travel is my absolute favorite thing in the world.  Being paid to do something I love so much while giving back in the process is a dream come true.”

Jauntaroo’s interview panel selected Tyson for his outgoing, gregarious nature and genuine love of travel and appreciation of different cultures.  The final selection process took place in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates. Mayr and the other four finalists were interviewed by the Jauntaroo team and participated in other selection process activities including on-camera presentations, photography and writing challenges.

“We’ve been so overwhelmed by both the quantity and the quality of our candidates and their submissions,” said Tom Wilson, Jauntaroo’s Chief Commercial Officer.  “Picking from the top five was very tough indeed, but as a group, we agreed that Tyson deserved the job given his obvious joy at connecting with new people from all walks of life and finding ways to give back to the communities he visits.  His genuine kindness, charm and broad social network help him to raise both awareness and money to advance his initiatives. We’re thrilled to name him Chief World Explorer and have him represent us around the globe.”

The announcement today in New York comes after the five final candidates’ returned from their four-day trip, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, where they stayed in the majestic Emirates Palace, flying Etihad Airways internationally, and JetBlue Airways domestically.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Etihad Airways is delighted to support Jauntaroo.com and this exciting competition to find the Chief World Explorer. As a global capital, with its central geographical position, Abu Dhabi was the perfect city to host the event and as the World’s Leading Airline as voted by the World Travel Awards, we were proud to fly the finalists from the US in style to our home. We congratulate the winner Tyson Mayr and wish him the very best of luck as he starts the new job as Chief World Explorer.”

Abu Dhabi proved to be an astounding destination to evaluate the range of skills sought in the Chief World Explorer. Jauntaroo incorporated candidate evaluation with the exploration of sites including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Falcon Hospital, Yas Marina Circuit and Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, as well as dune bashing, camel riding and henna painting at the Arabian Nights Village.

Video footage from the interviews and activities will be produced into webisodes for the website, showcasing Abu Dhabi and the Chief World Explorer selection process.

“We congratulate Tyson on his appointment,” said Mubarek Al Nuaimi, Promotions and Overseas Offices Director, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.  “We enjoyed hosting all five finalists – and it’s a shame that only one could win – but hope all go away with fond memories of their time with us.”

Recently the campaign’s airline sponsors, JetBlue and Etihad Airways, announced plans to begin codeshare operations that will provide customers with enhanced travel options worldwide.

“We are so grateful for our partners who helped bring this milestone event for Tyson and Jauntaroo to fruition,” Mr. Wilson stated. “Without coordination from the tourism board and support from the airlines, hotel and many activities – none of this could have taken place in such an exotic and enchanting location.”

Mr. Mayr will begin the “best job around the world” in March 2014 and share his travel experiences around the globe. For updates on his travels, visit Jauntaroo.com.
