Minister Coveney's Statement on Irish Open
Minister Simon Coveney TD has strongly welcomed the announcement that the 2014 Irish Open will return to Cork for the first time in 12 years to be hosted in Fota Island Resort.
“This is a really significant announcement for Cork. I have met the new owners of Fota recently, the Kang family, who have a strong desire to be part of the Cork economy and community. This is a huge opportunity to attract large number of people to Cork next summer. The positive economic impact on many of the sectors such as food and beverage, hospitality, travel and the overall tourism sector will be substantial”, said the Minister.
“I look forward to working with all those involved in this very special event for Cork this summer to ensure it is a major success. With many household names in the golfing world coming to our city I know everyone in Cork will get behind this event and be really excited about it”, concluded Minister Coveney.
