The Scottish Food and Drink Federation(SFDF) has organised a special event in Edinburgh on 9 December at which the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA), Christine Tacon, will be outlining what her new role will mean for Scottish food and drink producers.

The GCA, has been appointed to oversee the Groceries Code which applies to the largest supermarkets and governs their relationships with direct suppliers.

Ms Tacon will be the guest speaker at the free event which is open to all Scottish food and drink producers including companies which are not SFDF members.

The event will enable producers to hear more about the GCA's role which has been created to ensure supermarkets treat their suppliers fairly and lawfully and is funded by a levy on supermarkets with turnovers exceeding £1billion.

Scottish Food and Drink Federation Director Colette Backwell said:

“In general, relationships between suppliers and retailers in Scotland are good but the appointment of the Groceries Code Adjudicator means that there is someone in place to investigate any alleged transgressions.

“We look forward to welcoming Christine Tacon to our event to tell us more about her remit and to discuss the priorities of food and drink businesses in Scotland.”

To register for the event on 9 December at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport (starting at 12.15pm) visit the event page . The event is free and open to SFDF members and non-members. Places are limited and will be first-come-first-served.
