Audrie Pott Foundation Announces First Grant Recipients

Audrie Pott Foundation wants donations in Audrie's memory to impact the lives of children and teens.

SARATOGA, CA, USA, October 4, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Audrie Pott Foundation, started so that Audrie's tragic passing could become a catalyst for change and that the positive and beautiful life she led would continue in her absence to provide a glimmer of hope and love in this world, is announcing that the Foundation's first grant recipients are CASSY and Musicians Mobile.

CASSY is a nonprofit agency that partners with local schools to provide comprehensive mental health support for all enrolled students and their families at no charge. Their services include individual, group and family counseling; classroom presentations on depression, suicide awareness and bullying prevention; consultation and training for school staff; and outreach to parents and the broader community. CASSY currently provides a mental health safety net for over 17,500 students at 24 schools in Saratoga, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Milpitas.

In providing a $5,000 grant to CASSY, Counseling and Support Services for Youth, Larry Pott, Audrie's father, said, "if we were to start a counseling program, it would look just like CASSY. This organization has a great model which allows them to be on campus, free to the students, yet standing apart from the school and the school administration. It affords a comfortable communication channel for the kids and could not be more timely or easier for them to get to." As a result of the Audrie Pott Foundation grant, CASSY received two additional $5,000.00 donations in honor of Audrie, for a total of $15,000.00 in Audrie’s name.

"Thanks to the generous support of organizations like the Audrie Pott Foundation, we can ultimately ensure that students in the communities we serve have the continuity of support they need, from the first day of kindergarten until they graduate from high school, to be successful in school and in life," said Liz Schoeben, MFT, CASSY Executive Director.

The foundation is also pleased to announce The Audrie Pott Scholarship, through Musicians Mobile, which will provide a local youth (18 or under) with in-home music lessons for one year.

The Audrie Pott Foundation will be looking for a recipient who demonstrates the desire, passion and ability for musical achievement. In selecting Musicians Mobile, Mr. Pott said, "Musicians Mobile serves the local area, has a great reputation, and is staffed with talented teachers."

Audrie Pott played the viola and the piano and always loved to sing. She was in the color guard in middle school and was part of the only middle school to perform at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.

"It is an honor to be a part of this new musical gift to our community, and we look forward to helping these future students explore, enjoy and experience music,” said Nate Mueller, founder of Musicians Mobile. “We are exceedingly grateful to the Audrie Pott Foundation for making this scholarship opportunity possible, as well as for the foundation's commitment to the musical community throughout Saratoga and Los Gatos," added Mueller.

In the past twelve months following Audrie's passing, the Audrie Pott Foundation has received from the IRS a non-profit 501(c)3 designation, collected $13,000 in donations, and saw it’s disbursements be responsible for additional grant funding to local groups.

The foundation is now positioned to collect tax deductible donations in Audrie's memory to impact the lives of children and teens by providing suicide and sexual assault awareness, counseling and education along with Art and Music scholarships to students in the San Francisco Bay Area. The foundation has a goal of raising $25,000 in the next 12 months.

The foundation is holding a fundraiser on Sunday, October 6th from 4 pm to 8 pm in Saratoga. There will be two musical performances by Musicians Mobile and great gourmet food trucks. The event is free to the public. A portion of the food proceeds go to the Audrie Pott Foundation. More information can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/events/146099412265803/
