NEED Kansas Energy Education Workshop

Date: 9/18/2013

Location: Hutchinson, KS

Source: National Energy Education Development Project

8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. CT Shell and the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project have partnered to provide K-12 educators in Kansas with energy curriculum and teacher training to expand their energy activities in the classroom and in afterschool programs. The workshop content is aligned to Kansas state standards and the Next Generation Science Standards as well as Common Core. This workshop is an opportunity for classroom teachers (K-12) to learn about energy: forms of energy, energy resources, exploration for oil and natural gas, transportation, and energy conservation and efficiency. NEED materials engage and excite students to learn more about energy and to apply that knowledge. The lessons integrate all subject areas and provide a balanced look at energy. There is no cost to attend the workshop. Breakfast, lunch, parking and substitute reimbursement are included.

The NEED Project designs and delivers teacher-tested educational materials, evaluation techniques and tools, recognition of student achievement, and professional development for educators. NEED materials and training programs provide comprehensive, objective information about the scientific concepts of energy and the sources of energy: their use and their impact on the environment, the economy and society. All NEED learning activities are aligned Kansas standards. NEED curriculum is designed by teachers, updated annually with new data, and helps classroom educators meet standards while engaging kids in explorations that educate, excite and energize. NEED connects learning about energy to the wealth of careers in the energy industry for all students.
