UP TO SPEED

Who’s Racing:

Rolex Series – September 8, 2013   CTSCCS – September 8, 2013

Track:

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – 2.238-mile, 11-turn natural road course

Length:

Rolex Series - 2.75 hour timed race CTSCCS – 2.5 hour timed race

Tire Sets:

DP, GT and GX teams will all be allowed 6 sets of tires for the race (including slicks and rain tires).  A team that has a Trueman/Akin driver will be allowed one extra set.  There is no set limit for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series (CTSCCS).

Where Else Does This Compound Race:

DP – this tire compound is used at Daytona, Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Belle Isle, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca and Lime Rock. GT – this tire compound is used at Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Laguna Seca, and Lime Rock. CTSCC – this tire compound will be used at all tracks this year.

Pit Window:

The pit window (fuel run) for the weekend is approximately 32-36 laps for DP and GT.  Both the DP and GT cars will go through approximately three to four sets of tires while the CTSCCS will use approximately two sets of tires.  These are just approximations and does not account for fuel mileage, weather or caution flag laps.  Don’t look for teams to double stint on tires.

Track Characteristics:

The actual track configuration of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is fairly “easy” on the tires.  However, the sand, dirt and wind combine to make for a slippery surface that can create grip issues as a run wears on.  Typically cars will have maximum grip on new tires but on older tires, cars will start to slide around a bit.  The track is also sensitive to temperature change so it’s important to keep heat in the tires.

DID YOU KNOW

  • Prepared rain or shine – Continental will bring approximately 2,500 tires to Laguna Seca (inclusive of rain and slick tires).
  • MTV Video Award? – That’s right, we were in a music video.  Compliments of Jordan Taylor and featuring fellow drivers, Ricky Taylor, Ryan Eversley, Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney.  We think it’s award-worthy.  Check it out: Jordan Loves Stickers *Or you can search YouTube using “Jordan Loves Stickers”
  • Driving Confidence Award – Continental will once again present the “Driving Confidence” Award to the GS and ST team’s that have completed the most miles on Continental tires during the 2014 season at the year-end banquet.  Both the GS and ST races are close, take a look at miles completed through Kansas:
    • Noteworthy – the No. 13 RumBum team has completed every mile possible in 2014.  They are the only team to finish every race on the lead lap.
