COCOA BEACH, FL, USA, August 26, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The nationally recognized and award winning public safety architectural firm, Architects Design Group, was recently selected to prepare the design criteria package for a design-build contract of the new Cocoa Beach Fire Station.

Cocoa Beach's Fire Station No. 1 is currently of substandard conditions, functionally outdated, and poses a potential risk to rescue services within the City of Cocoa. The existing station is located in an area of lower elevation and often experiences flooding in the apparatus bays during any given significant rain storm. As a barrier island, Cocoa Beach is highly susceptible to catastrophic events such as hurricanes, heavy rain storms and tornadoes; weather capable of producing a tremendous amount of rain and possibly flooding the apparatus bays in a short amount of time. With all of the above issues brought into consideration, the city commission determined the Fire Station must be replaced.

Based on the recommendations in the study completed by ADG, the city commission approved a new three-story Fire Station/Fire Administration Facility. The new facility will meet survivability standards and will be positioned on higher elevation to provide adequate drainage. The future home of Fire Station No. 1 is located on Orlando Avenue in the heart of Downtown Cocoa Beach, south of City Hall.
