THE BASICS

Who’s Racing:

GRAND-AM/Rolex Series – August 10, 2013 GRAND-AM/CTSCCS – August 10, 2013 ALMS/PC – August 11, 2013

Track:

Road America - 4.048-mile, 14-turn natural road course

Length:

Rolex Series – 2.75 hour timed race CTSCCS – 2.5 hour timed race PC – 2.75 hour timed race

 See For Yourself:

With numerous places to pass, and 4.048 miles to do it, Road America is sure to bring fans some must watch racing.  Ricky Taylor, Memo Rojas, Ryan Eversley, Jeff Segal and others discuss the best places to pass at Road America, the merger and their favorite places to vacation.  Watch now: Road America Preview

Tire Sets:

DP, GT and GX teams will all be allowed 6 sets of tires for the race (including slicks and rain tires).  A team that has a Trueman/Akin driver will be allowed one extra set.  There is no set limit for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series (CTSCCS).

PC cars are allowed 5 sets up to qualifying then have unlimited set’s during the race.  Don’t expect the teams to use more than five sets for the weekend.

Where Else Does This Compound Race:

DP-I – this tire compound is used at Daytona, Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Belle Isle, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca and Lime Rock. GT – this tire compound is used at Austin, Barber, Road Atlanta, Mid-Ohio, Road America, Laguna Seca, and Lime Rock. CTSCC – this tire compound will be used at all tracks this year. PC – The PC teams will run the same compound at Road America that they will run at every track the remainder of the year with the exception of Baltimore.  The compound used at Long Beach will also be used at Baltimore.

Pit Window:

The pit window (fuel run) for the weekend is approximately 23-25 laps.  Expect both the DP and GT cars to use three to four sets of Continental tires.  These are just approximations and does not account for fuel mileage, weather or caution flag laps.  It is not expected that teams will double stint on tires.

Track Characteristics:

Road America is typically easy on tires.  The 14-turn road course is the longest circuit GRAND-AM and ALMS will visit in 2013 at 4.048 miles.  There are a few challenging turns but for the most part, the track is very fast with long straightaway’s and there should be ample passing throughout all the race series.  The track does not typically collect a lot of debris but with other series on the track, marbling will be a bit of an unknown.
