Harmonizing GCC Trade Networks

JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA, July 1, 2013 / -- There is an exponential growth expected for the Intermodal Transportation sector. With investments worth above $115 billion in the transportation (including Ports & Rail) sector across the GCC Region where rail alone is expected to contribute over $70 billion in the next 5 years. A significant growth rate of 10.5 per cent in the cargo traffic between Middle East and African airlines was observed in the first quarter of 2013. And the first road linking Oman and Saudi which is due to start by the end of 2013, will open new opportunities for trade between the countries.

Jeddah hosts major hub container terminals in the Middle East Region, as it is strategically located at major world shipping routes passing the Red Sea. Compared to present feeder services and road transportation, development of the railway network in the region will improve access to maritime transport and international markets for the hinterland of the Kingdom. To expound into how aligned transport policies and integrated transport planning can help, Abdul Ghaffar , Chief Engineer (Strategic Planning Department) from Road Transport Authority will discuss on common transport policies and building dedicated travel corridors for freight moving vehicles with structured fees, traffic controls, highway safety rules and vehicle specifications.

The summit will be an excellent opportunity for solution providers across the transportation sector to promote their products to their target prospects.
