Harrisonburg, Virginia – Turner-Ashby.com, dedicated to promoting the remembrance of Confederate Brigadier Gen. Turner Ashby, has extended an invitation to its supporters, visitors and readers to attend an upcoming ceremony in honor of the Confederate horseman.

The Turner Ashby Chapter 162 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) will host a commemorative ceremony at a monument in Harrisonburg, Virginia, on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 6 p.m. The event honors Ashby, who led the Virginia cavalry against the Union Forces during the Civil War.

"The ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy are a great tribute to our American heritage. They deserve the support of Virginians at this event as they commemorate a brave horseman who played an important role in the Commonwealth's – and the country's – rich history," said Jake Johnson, lead historian for Turner-Ashby.com.

The ceremony for Ashby is held every year at a historical marker on Chestnut Ridge outside Harrisonburg, Virginia, recognizing where Gen. Turner Ashby fell June 6, 1862 defending the Confederate forces under attack. The Monument was dedicated by the UDC on June, 1898.

This year's event will feature a speaker addressing the historical significance of Gen. Turner Ashby and some of the traditions observed during the Civil War.

A performance by the Shenandoah Valley Minstrels will also be featured. The troupe dresses in period costume and provides entertainment with musicians, dancers, singers and dance callers representative of the Civil War period.

The Turner Ashby memorial monument is located at the end of Turner Ashby Drive on the south side of Harrisonburg, Virginia. It can be reached from Neff Road. Ceremony attendees are requested to bring their own chair.
