Goshen College has entered into an agreement with Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) to purchase 100% renewable energy to power its campus. The college is NIPSCO's first major customer to join the utility's new Green Power Program which provides Green-e certified renewable energy certificates (REC) to customers for a monthly premium. have a GPN story on this? If so, could you link to it here?> The Green Power Program is available to all customers and allows a participant to designate a portion or all of their monthly electric usage to renewable energy. Leaders at the college expect that the carbon footprint of the campus will be reduced by 45% as a result of their enrollment. The college has been committed to improving its electricity use since signing the American College and University Presidents' Climate Commitment in 2007. Since that time, the college has reduced its electricity consumption to levels used on campus in 1992, despite adding 290,000 square feet of building space.
