John Green, Booklist’s 50th Hostile Questions interviewee

CHICAGO - “I’m a novelist with a day job making YouTube videos. I used to be a novelist with a day job being an editorial assistant and then a production editor at Booklist Magazine,” says John Green in his Hostile Questions interview with Booklist Books for Youth Senior Editor Dan Kraus.
John Green is the 50th author willingly subjecting him- or herself to weekly Hostile Questions interviews. “It’s a red-letter day,” Kraus said. “Hostile Questions’ first birthday and our 50th interview. And if there’s a man begging to be brought up on charges of Un-Author-like Conduct over past year, it’s none other than John Green… Maybe–just maybe–we here at Booklist kinda miss our former colleague. We knew him before he was an ‘Experience’ and was just a guy with a really, really, really disgusting office.”
Kraus launched the series in spring 2012 on the Booklist Online “Likely Stories” blog to find out if authors are sick of politeness. Each interview is built around five questions - Just who do you think you are? Where do you get off? What’s the big idea? What is your problem, man? Haven’t you done enough?
Interview subjects are invited to interpret the questions however they’d like, though in case the authors get stuck, Kraus offers suggestions for each, along the lines of: “Introduce yourself; “Tell us where you’re from; “Tell us about your books; and “What’s up next for you?” Find out how Green answers these five hostile questions.
Other authors have so far included Camille Paglia, Libba Bray, Roger Ebert, Chuck Hogan, Naomi Wolf, Neal Stephenson, Mary Roach, Gregg Hurwitz, Erin Morgenstern, James Dasher, Jonathan Maberry and Marcus Dunstan/Patrick Melton (authors of the Saw movies).
