Apple Data Centers Powered with 100% Renewable Energy
Apple recently announced that all of its data centers are now powered with 100% renewable energy. Apple installed a 20-MW solar array at its LEED platinum certified Maiden, North Carolina datacenter in December 2012. That array is accompanied by an onsite 10-MW fuel cell installation, and a second 20-MW solar facility is currently under construction. Apple's new data center in Prineville, Oregon, which is currently under construction, will run on renewable energy sources such as wind, hydro, solar, and geothermal.
The company has increased its use of renewable energy by 114% since 2010, with 75% of its offices now being powered by renewable resources. Apple has achieved 100% renewable energy use at its four largest office campuses, located in Ireland, Germany, and California.
