UKOOA Announces New Safety Appointment
The UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) has appointed Bob Kyle to the newly created position of assistant director of safety.
Bob Kyle takes over responsibility for safety at UKOOA from Jim Petrie, who retires at the end of December after working for the Association as a part-time safety consultant for nearly nine years. Mr Kyle takes up his position on 3 January 2001.
Bob Kyle brings almost 20 years experience as a safety professional in the offshore oil and gas industry. He spent 16 years with Marathon Oil UK Ltd, latterly as manager of corporate safety, health and environmental affairs, and has been an active member of numerous industry safety committees and working parties for UKOOA, the Offshore Contractors Association, the Offshore Industry Advisory Committee and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers.
He was chairman of UKOOAs safety committee in 1996 and gave evidence on behalf of the Association at the Piper Alpha Inquiry in 1989.
He joined Salamis M&I Ltd, part of the Maersk Corporation, in July 1999 and was appointed group manager for health, safety, environmental and quality in June 2000.
Dr John Wils, UKOOAs director of operational and technical affairs, said: This is a full time appointment, based in Aberdeen, with a pivotal role in taking forward health and safety issues for UKOOA.
Bob Kyles work will include liaison with the industrys safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive, on all policy issues affecting UKOOA members. He will also support and co-ordinate safety matters for a wide range of UKOOA committees, liaise with stakeholders such as the unions and other industry trade associations, and will be the Associations prime contact for the cross- industry Step Change safety campaign.
