UKOOA Response to Government Energy Reshuffle

The UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA), the representative body for Britain's oil and gas producers, argued in its response to the Government's Energy Review earlier this year that UK energy policy was so important that it deserved a place in the Cabinet.

Today's announcement (November 10, 2006) that Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, is to take a personal lead on energy means that we have effectively achieved just that.  We very much welcome the news.

The Secretary of State is due to chair the next PILOT meeting (in Aberdeen, November 24) and we very much hope he will continue in that role.

Notes to Editors

  • The UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) is the representative organisation for oil and gas companies licensed by the UK government to explore for and produce hydrocarbons offshore around the British Isles.  It has 41 members
  • PILOT is the government industry initiative formed in 2000 to develop and implement measures to secure the future of the UK offshore oil and gas industry.
