Step Change in safety event underlines commitment to safety
More than seventy oil and gas company managing directors and senior leaders will come together to underline their personal commitment to improving safety offshore, reconfirm their engagement with the Step Change in Safety initiative and engage in an exchange of best practices and lessons learned.
At the annual Step Change in Safety dinner on Wednesday 06 February, managing directors will sign the Step Change in Safety charter, declaring their personal commitment to action in a number of key safety areas. By signing the charter, they will agree to demonstrate visible safety leadership, effectively engage with their site managers, safety representatives and workforce and promote effective collaboration through the sharing of best practice, thus working towards consistency and continuous improvement in industry standards.
Step Change in Safety co-chair Rick Cohagan, who will be speaking at the event, said: The leadership of Step Change in Safety and Oil & Gas UK have agreed to come together regularly to demonstrate their commitment to safety and to work towards incident free operations. This event will bring together the industry's most senior leaders to share ideas and experience, explore some innovative thinking and set direction for 2008 and beyond.
Ian Aitchison, Step Change in Safety support team leader added: This new charter is a rewrite of the original 1997 pan-industry commitment. After ten years, it is time for the Step Change in Safety membership to demonstrate that they can really make a difference in achieving improvement in safety performance and to restate their commitment to this unique initiative.
