High achievements in training and development result in special award
The Jus-Rol Berwick facility – one of a handful of United Kingdom food companies chosen as a finalist for the Best Factory Awards – has received a "Judges' Special Award" for outstanding achievement.
In recognition of its outstanding achievements in production excellence and training and development, the Jus-Rol factory recently received the prestigious United Kingdom Judges' Special Award.
“This is an enormous success,” says Roger Turnbull, Berwick site director. “It is national recognition of what has been achieved at the Berwick plant and something of which everyone in the whole factory should feel really proud."
Awards honor excellence Cranfield University – a prominent UK engineering and manufacturing college – established the Best Factory Awards 19 years ago, and its School of Management continues to administer the annual awards.
The awards reward manufacturing excellence in the UK. Nearly 200 manufacturing companies entered.
Jus-Rol, which currently employs 372 people to make pastry and pastry products, was named one of 17 finalists. And one of four in the food category.
"To be one of the finalists was a tremendous achievement, and the judges were so impressed from their visit to the Berwick plant that we are now the proud recipients of a Judges' Special Award," Turnbull says.
A royal pleasure In addition to its most recent award, Jus-Rol can boast about a royal seal of approval.
In the late 1950s, Jus-Rol introduced frozen Yorkshire pudding, one of its first new product lines. The convenient pudding was an overnight hit, and earned royal approval when it was ordered to be served on the Royal Yacht Britannia.
The pudding was one of the first new lines made at Berwick, located near the Scottish border, after the then family-owned business grew so fast that bigger premises were needed to meet demand.
Jus-Rol is just one of the branded foods made by General Mills UK, which is based in Uxbridge. Other brands include Betty Crocker, Green Giant, Häagen-Dazs, Nature Valley and Old El Paso.
