Minister Ritz Announces Appointment to the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal
Ottawa, Ontario, June 25, 2012 – Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz today announced the appointment of Bruce La Rochelle to the Canada Agricultural Review Tribunal (CART).
“I am pleased Mr. La Rochelle has agreed to join the Tribunal,” said Minister Ritz. “Mr. La Rochelle’s knowledge of law, regulatory processes and business should serve him well in this position.”
CART is an independent, quasi-judicial body established by Parliament pursuant to section 4.1 of the Canada Agricultural Products Act. Its primary role is to provide independent oversight, through the exercise of its review jurisdiction, of federal agencies' use of administrative monetary penalties in relation to agriculture and agri-food.
CART reports to Parliament through the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
The part-time position appointment is for a term of three years and is effective immediately. A biographical note for the appointee is attached.

Biographical Note
Bruce La Rochelle
Mr. La Rochelle is a lawyer, presently practising in association with Langevin Morris Smith LLP, while also teaching part-time with the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa. Mr. La Rochelle is a graduate in general arts from St. Michael's College, University of Toronto (1973), and a graduate in law (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa (1976). He holds an M.B.A. degree from the Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto (1981), and a doctorate in business administration from the Schulich School of Business, York University (1993). Mr. La Rochelle is also a member of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and is a voting member of the JUNO Awards. Mr. La Rochelle currently lives in Ottawa.
